![]() | Springfield Armory XD Mod.3 | Check Price |
Springfield Armory isn’t typically the first name that comes to mind when thinking of budget-friendly firearms. So, when it releases a pistol with a $325 MSRP, it certainly stands out.
Despite its low price, this model comes equipped with features like an optics-ready slide, a flat-face trigger, and a 16+1 magazine capacity. The XD Mod.3 should tick off many boxes you’d look for in a concealed carry or home defense pistol without costing an arm and a leg.
Given Springfield’s history of reliable firearms, I had higher than average expectations for this model, especially given its budget category.
In this review, we’ll look closer at its features and share insights based on our range sessions to help you decide whether the XD Mod.3 is a hidden gem or a waste of your money.
I’ve now put 375 rounds through the gun so far, consisting of 150 rounds of 115-grain Fiocchi Range Dynamics, 200 rounds of 124-grain Blazer Brass, and 25 rounds of 115-grain Hornady Zombie Max.
Out of those 375 rounds, I experienced no malfunctions or issues, which didn’t come as much of a surprise.
I tested it from 7 to 20 yards, and it proved more than accurate enough for a defensive role, even without an optic.
The front fiber optic sight stood out clearly, and while the trigger reset is a bit on the longer side, the break is crisp and consistent. Both made for easy follow-up shots that were tight and controlled.
Regarding ergonomics, whether you have medium, large, or extra-large hands, the Mod.3 is built to fit well in your hand.

The optics-ready slide has both front and rear serrations for easy manipulation, and as I mentioned above, it comes with a fiber optic front sight to make target acquisition faster.
It supports many popular optics with the appropriate mounting plate, although I tested it without an optic, sticking to the theme of maximum affordability.
At the heart of the frame, you’ll find a flat-face trigger in an enlarged trigger guard. The trigger guard is undercut to allow for a firmer grip and, when paired with the grip texturing, provides a comfortable shooting experience.
The trigger isn’t going to win any awards, but it’s smooth and repeatable. A slight tweak to the reset to make it shorter would go a long way in improving the overall impression.
Safety features were a key consideration during the design, with the inclusion of a grip safety, striker status indicator, and a subtle loaded chamber indicator up top. I’d like to see the grip safety and striker status indicator removed, but that is simply a personal preference.
After the first several magazines, you start not to notice the grip safety, but I’d still forgo it if it were an option.
I would’ve guessed that a 15-round magazine comes with the XD Mod.3, so when I opened the box and saw a 16-round magazine, I was pleasantly surprised.
The stainless steel magazine has an anti-tilt polymer follower and rear-facing witness holes, which don’t leave much to be desired.
I do however wish it came with more than one magazine. I would have expected two mags in the box, even for the price.

There were no malfunctions out of the 375 rounds I put down range.
Remove the grip safety, and this could bump up to a 9/10.
Optic and light options are good to go, but you may have difficulty finding dedicated holsters or aftermarket controls.
The value is hard to argue with an MSRP of only $325.
If you’re on a budget but still want a reliable and sufficient option for self-defense, I highly recommend considering the XD Mod.3.
With its 16+1 capacity, optics-ready slide, and Springfield’s reputation for reliability, this pistol is well-positioned to be a contender for many “best value” lists in 2025.
As always, stay safe, train hard, and have fun.
